1st ANNUAL VILLARREAL ELEMENTARY

CHESS TOURNAMENT

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2011

ZAPATA TX

Fidel & Andrea R. Villarreal Elementary School (Zapata TX) extends a warm invitation to all scholastic chess players grades K through 12th grade in Zapata and surrounding communities to take part in the school’s first ever open tournament. The contest will be co-hosted by the Laredo Chess Club. There will be five sections and the event will be non-rated, so anyone can play. School principal is Ms. Ana M. Martinez. School chess sponsor and event co-ordinator is Mr. William R. Lane. The Laredo Chess Club will provide the awards. Club members will direct this event.

Site: Villarreal Elementary gym located at 805 Mira Flores Ave., Zapata TX.

Format: 4 round Swiss System tournament (round-robins will be set up if necessary)

Divisions: There will be one open non-rated division for all students.

Sections: There will be five sections: primary (K-3), elementary 4th, elementary 5th, middle (6-8) and high school (9-12).

Pre-registration: Complete form below and e-mail to dan209@stx.rt.com. Deadline is Thursday, December 8th.

Check in: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Pre-registered players must pay on time or they will be dropped. Please be on time!

Late registration: Same time as check in. Late registrants get a ½ point bye in round 1 and pay a higher entry fee.

First round: 12:00 noon. TD reserves the right to modify time limits and rounds.

Awards: 4:30 p.m.

Tie-breakers: Solkoff, cumulative & cumulative of opposition. (If round-robin, then Sonneborn-Berger & head-to-head).

Time limit: game/30. Games may be speeded-up or adjudicated if necessary. Decision is at TD's discretion.

Entry Fee: $7.00 if pre-registered. Late registration is $10.00 with ½ point bye for first round.

Prizes: individual medals 1st-3rd in each section and certificates to all scoring 2.5+ or better.

Notes: Concessions will be sold. Please support the school chess club by purchasing food and drink on site. WinTD program will be used. Chess equipment will be on sale. There will be a raffle for free door prizes (3 collectible chess sets donated by Dan Navarro. Sponsors are encouraged to e-mail batch forms early. Thank you!
