CHESS TOURNAMENT
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2011

Laredo Community College in conjunction with the Laredo Chess Club welcome all chess players K-12 and college / university level students to take part in an open scholastic chess tournament. This will be the kickoff event for the 2011-2012 school year. There will be a USCF-rated division for advanced players and a non-rated division for beginners. . This event is being facilitated through the college’s Department of Student Services, Dr. Vincent Solis Vice President. Event organizer is college’s chess club coach, Mr. Roger Rodriguez. The Laredo Rotary Club is the awards sponsor. Members of the Laredo Chess Club will direct.

Site: Kazen Center, Laredo Community College Fort McIntosh campus, west end Washington St.
Format: 4 round Swiss System tournament (round-robins will be set up if necessary)
Divisions: Students may play in either the USCF-rated division or the non-rated division
Sections: Each division will have five sections: primary (K-3), elementary (4-5), middle (6-8), high school (9-12) and college/university. TD reserves right to combine and/ore eliminate sections as needed..dan209@stx.rr.com


Pre-registration: Complete form below and e-mail to . . Deadline is Thursday, September 29th.
Check in: 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Pre-registered players must pay on time or they will be dropped. Please be on time!
Late registration: Same time as check in. Late registrants get a ½ point bye in round 1 and pay a higher entry fee.
First round: 12:00 noon. TD reserves the right to modify time limits and rounds. Awards: 4:30 p.m.
Tie-breakers: Solkoff, cumulative & cumulative of opposition. (If round-robin, then Sonneborn-Berger & head-to-head).
Time limit: game/30. Games may be speeded-up or adjudicated if necessary. Decision is at TD's discretion.
Entry Fee: $7.00 if pre-registered. Late registration is $10.00 with ½ point bye for first round.
USCF Membership: If playing in the USCF-rated division, players must be current members of the USCF. Membership enrollment and renewals are available on site. Dues with no magazine are as follows: ages 6-12 $16.00, 13-15 $20.00, 16-24 $24.00. For magazine add $7.00 extra. The 16-24 group gets 12 issues; others get 6 issues annually.
Prizes: USCF-rated division: individual trophies 1st-3rd and certificates 4th-6th in each section. Non-rated division: individual medals 1st-3rd and certificates 4th-6th in each section.

Notes: Concessions will be sold. Please support the hosting school by purchasing food and drink on site. WinTD program will be used. Chess equipment will be on sale. There will be a raffle for free door prizes (3 chess-related collectibles) donated by Dan Navarro. Sponsors are encouraged to e-mail batch forms early. Thank you!
