CHESS TOURNAMENT

Fidel & Andrea R. Villarreal Elementary School (Zapata TX) invites all student chess players K-12 in Zapata and surrounding communities to compete in the school’s second annual open chess tournament.  The contest will be co-hosted by the Laredo Chess Club. There will be four sections and the event will be non-rated.  School principal is Ms. Ana M. Martinez. School chess sponsor and event co-ordinator is Mr. William R. Lane.  The Laredo Chess Club will provide the awards.  Club members will direct this event.

 

Site:  Villarreal Elementary gym located at 805 Mira Flores Ave., Zapata TX.

Format: 4 round Swiss System tournament (round-robins will be set up if necessary)

Sections: There will be four sections: primary (K-3), elementary (4-5), middle (6-8) and high school (9-12). TD reserves the right to combine sections.

Pre-registration: Complete form below and e-mail to                                     .  Deadline is Thursday, January 31st.

Check in: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.  Pre-registered players must pay on time or they will be dropped.

Late registration: Same time as check in. Late registrants get   ½ point  bye in round 1 and pay higher entry fee.

First round: 11:30 a.m. TD reserves the right to modify time limits and rounds.  Awards: 4:00 p.m.

Tie-breakers: Modified median, Solkoff, cumulative & cumulative of opposition. (If round-robin, Sonneborn-Berger and head-to-head).

Time limit:  game/30.  Games may be speeded-up or adjudicated if necessary.  Decision is at TD's discretion.  

Entry Fee:  $7.00 if pre-registered.  Late registration is $10.00 with ½ point bye for round 1.  Please make checks payable to “Laredo Chess Club”.

Prizes: individual trophies 1st-3rd in each section and certificates to all scoring 2.5+ or better.   

 

Notes: Concessions will be sold. Please support the school chess club by purchasing food and drink on site. WinTD program will be used. Chess equipment will be on sale. There will be a raffle for free door prizes (3 collectible chess sets) donated by Dan Navarro.  Sponsors are encouraged to e-mail batch forms early.
